Tips to Buy the Right Computer Monitors

A computer monitor usually displays the visual output as it is given by the keyboard. Choosing the right type of monitor that will best suit your application needs in the sense looking at the power usage and its size is highly challenging. LCD monitors have become the popular choice of many people. The LCD type use half the power wattage of a CRT monitor. The LCD monitors produce less heat and occupy only less space. LCD monitors can be mounted on a wall or arm mount to re-establish work space. The CRT monitors are bigger and consume more power. LCD or Liquid Crystal Display monitors are similar to what is initiate on portable computers. The LCD monitors display an image sharper, are more space efficient and lighter.

The LCD monitors have more adjustment features than the CRT monitor and it can be tilted, pivoted and turned vertically or horizontally to save space. The LCD type will not flicker because of its higher refresh rate but the CRT model does not support these features. The appreciable results of higher refresh rates are less eye strain and fatigue for the user. The CRT monitors are less fragile than an LCD monitors. CRT is a technology that’s much like what you will find on most TVs. The CRT or cathode ray tube seem to be a reasonable solution however; they are very heavy and bulky.

Image sharpness or Resolution on the display screen is determined by the pixels or dots per inch. The clarity of resolution is evaluated by the number of vertical-row pixels x horizontal-row pixels. Standard monitor resolutions in pixels are 640×480, 1023×768, 800×600 and up. The CRT monitors support multiple resolutions and other lower resolutions as well but Flat panel monitors do not hold multiple resolutions. The LCD screen will hold only its native resolution. The CRTs quickly redraw the images but Flat-panels don’t have these features. The CRTs are best for game players. When used for gaming, the LCD’s can have problems in the area of response time and dot pitch. The LCD monitors will work with your video card and computer. The LCD’s have come down in price substantially but flat-panels are the best choice for today’s computer user. The 15-inch monitors, 17-inch monitors, 19-inch monitors, 21-inch monitors are available.

Most of the web pages are created in a 17-inch monitors. In 15-inch monitors, you will waste online time scrolling to view everything. In 17-inch monitors, you have a 15.1-inch viewable image but others have16 inches. At the same price, you get much better value 15-inch monitor than a 17-inch monitor. We highly recommend a 21-inch monitor for users who plan on using the computer for CAD or graphic art applications. We greatly recommend a 15-inch screeb, users who plan on using the computer for word processing or e-mail. When purchasing a computer monitor do consider the size of the monitor. The viewable size is the size of the viewable area and it’s not the size of the computer monitor. The viewable size of the monitor is a very important thing and it can be vary by manufacturer.

The computer monitors are flooded with glut of applications which include compatibility with PC and Mac, onscreen controls; 0.26 millimeters true dot pitch, 1,600 x 1,200 maximum resolution, 18.0-inch viewable screen. These features increase proportionately and stride towards infinity. Select the right one and enjoy the real essence of the picture quality.

Laptops With Long Battery Life (8 Hours Or More)

Those who often travel around with their laptops would definitely agree that the battery life is one of the most important features on a laptop. Currently, most of the mainstream and mid-range laptop models have an average battery life of about 4 hours or so. With rigorous use, they usually last about 2.5 to 3 hours.

Well, fans of long battery life laptops can now rejoice as there now more and more of such laptops to choose from in the market. The 13.3-inch Asus UL30A-X5 for instance is currently one of the most popular laptop models in the market, probably due to its amazing 12-hour battery life. Besides the astounding battery life, this Asus laptop actually has a lot to offer. For starters it is an ultra-slim model, measuring at just 0.98-inches in thickness (and weighing 3.74 pounds). It has a gorgeous (and very classy) brushed aluminum external casing and it also comes with a great set of specs. It has a 500GB hard drive, 4GB of DDR3 RAM and an Intel SU7300 Core 2 Duo processor.

Another excellent laptop model in this class will have to be the stylish 13.3-inch Toshiba Satellite T135-S1310 laptop. The battery on this laptop can last close to 9.5 hours at one go. This model has 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a 320GB hard drive and an Intel SU4100 1.3Ghz processor. It was quite hard to find fault with this model. It has a great design and comes with a variety of neat features (including Bluetooth 2.1 and a HDMI output). The Acer Timeline AS4810TZ-4508 14-inch laptop is yet another laptop with a great battery life (8 hours). Its specs are very similar to the Toshiba model above. The difference is, the Acer model even comes with an 8X DVD optical drive.

Lets Talk About Joomla CMS

Individuals, companies, authors, publishers…almost everyone can take advantage of Joomla

Ever wanted to create a website but had no clue about HTML and how to do it?

Let’s start from scratch. You have an idea and want to design a website. Here is what you do: Get familiar with Photoshop because Photoshop is just HUGE. It is the best tool in this category, I have been working with it for years and yet I have to say I know maybe about 60% of its capabilities

I won’t tell you the golden rules of website design, because this would definitely be too much for this blog here, so let’s assume you have read some tutorials on website design, the Do’s and Dont’s etc. After scribbling some layouts, you will convert this into Photoshop, then later “slice” the graphics according to the layout, save them as individual graphic files an later put them together into a HTML-editor like Dreamweaver.

You created your menu buttons, put them into HTML, linked them to your content, so far so good. You bring your website online and then, after a while you figure you would need another menu item. What do you need to do? Go back to Photoshop, create that one button (2 if you work with rollover), bring them into your HTML layout and if you have bad luck, that additional button will let your whole layout explode…

Especially if you design websites for customers, this is a pain in the a…because they like to keep changing their minds like crazy and that means a lot of additional work for you.

So what do you do then? Think about a system, which lets you create a menu automatically, which lets you add menu items within minutes? Sounds good? Yes it does and it’s not a dream, it’s just a Content Management System (CMS). Over the years I really liked to work with is

Joomla

It is not too huge and complicated like Typo 3 but has all the features one needs and comes with a whole lot of extensions due to its popularity. There are thousands of websites offering help, commercial services (like template design, installation etc.)

But back to where we have started…you set it up in a few easy steps, choose one of the hundreds of free template designs, which can easily be customized to your own needs. Of course you will have an advantage here also, if you know the Tricks of the Pros, because then your sites will really look like made by a design studio! You don’t need to necessarily work in your HTML Editor, you can do everything online. You can enter text, pictures, create menu items, create different menues, submenues etc. You even have a access rights management, where you can give your customer the right to update the “news” page for instance. This gives you another advantage, as more and more customers are asking for that. If they want you to do all the work, even better! You have less work, can achieve things very easily and can still charge the customer.

This was just a glimpse of the whole thing…there are some downsides also. One would be that you need a MySQL Database on your webspace, second would be that you have to keep updating the software with patches and security updates. Its popularity has made it a target of hackers at times, so if you keep the system not updated for a long time, you might get hacked, just like a Windows computer.

What You Need to Know in Order to Build a Successful Website

You have decided to build your own website so you can start earning money online and you are looking for the best tools and resources to do this. Forget the online website builders and cookie cutter website building programs; you are wasting your time and money. Buy yourself a domain name and get your own hosting.

Let’s look at the basic things you will need in order to design and develop your website.

You will first of all need hosting and a domain name. You can purchase a domain name for around $10 from several different companies like GoDaddy, it’s pretty easy and they even have hosting. There are also many hosting companies out there where you can find really low cost hosting but you want to make sure you have service and support. Most of the time hosting companies will not help you when you run into problems with your website unless it’s an issue with your hosting account. Remember if you get your domain name one place and your web hosting with a different company you will have to set up your domain to point to your server (hosting).

Now let’s move on to the website type and platform.

First of all what type of website will fit your needs? Will it be a blog or a business website or will it be e-Commerce so you can sell your products online? Okay, let’s break each of these down and go over the tools you will need for them.

Blog- I would recommend going with WordPress. Some hosting companies will have a “one click install” in the hosting control panel and you can have WordPress set up in just a few minutes. If you get a hosting provider that does not offer this then you can install it yourself. You download the software from the WordPress website then you upload it to your server (host) using an FTP program such as Cute FTP or WS-FTP. Once you do that you will need to go into your hosting control panel and set up a database then just follow the directions included with the WordPress download.

Business- You will probably want to use a CMS (content management system) so you can update your website and add pages so you may choose to go with something like Joomla or Drupal. Both Joomla and Drupal are set up pretty much the same way as a blog would be and come with directions on how to install them.

Ecommerce- You have the choice of going with several free shopping carts and several carts you must purchase a license to use. Again, these shopping carts install pretty much like the blogs and the CMS programs do, you will need to FTP them to your server, you will need to set up a database. My one warning about the free shopping cart programs is that unless you really enjoy having to upgrade a lot then don’t go that route. It seems hackers love these programs so the developers have to release updates often to patch security holes. You don’t want to wake up one morning to see your website has been hacked and is now owned by someone that has made a fool of you and is advertising porn on your website. Now that you have your website set up it looks very plain and vanilla, right out of the box! Most any program will come with a “default” design that most likely will do nothing for you so let’s get into the design aspect of your website.

Most programs are using CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) to control design elements in the website. You will need to know how to use CSS in order to work with it. There are books on CSS that you can purchase at your local book store or online. You can also search the internet for tutorials on CSS.

Once you feel comfy with CSS you will need to think about your graphics, your logo and the over all appearance of your website. Remember it only takes a split second for someone so say “YUCK”, laugh and click off your website. You have to get this part right! For your graphics I would recommend using Adobe Photoshop, you can buy this program online for a few hundred dollars. You will need to learn how to use it next. There are Books, online tutorials and even college classes that can teach you how to use Photoshop and how to get your graphics optimized for the internet (yes you need to do this so your pages won’t take 3 days to load).

Wow, are you tired yet? We’re not finished yet so let’s move on.

Your website is installed, you have learned CSS and some XHTML and you have designed your logo and created all of your graphics using Photoshop so all you have left to do is write your content (text).

Just like a bad design using the wrong colors or poorly created graphics the wrong words can turn people off just as fast. Microsoft Word has spell check so you will be ok there and if you search the web you can find some articles on how to write good website content to sell your product or promote your business. If you are setting up a blog sometimes you can just write what you feel depending on what kind of blog you have.

Remember to write your content for humans first and search engines second.

If this seems like a lot to do it is, yes you can take short cuts but they will do more harm than good so look at it this way…If your new car tears up are you going to learn to be a mechanic? If you find yourself in a lawsuit are you going to study law and defend yourself in court? If you…well you get my point by now. Did you figure the hours it will take you to not only learn how to develop and design your website but to take that knowledge and put it to work? To have something professional it will take a lot of hours.

What’s your time worth? Your website is not going to make any money until it’s online and don’t forget we didn’t even touch on the marketing you will need to do so people can find you.

We design and market professional websites so you can spend time on what earns you money, your business.
